Wind and solar projects gain traction in Garfield County as moratorium expires
Several renewable energy projects are on the horizon after Garfield County’s moratorium on wind farms lifted last month, while neighboring Whitman County continues to hold off on such projects as it drafts new rules for them following local opposition.
The Garfield County Commission allowed its six-month moratorium on new wind energy projects to expire before the county planning commission was able to finish updating its ordinance regulating such projects.
Heading into the 2025 planting season farmers in the Northwestern Corn Belt are facing some of the same headwinds as the rest of the country from tariffs to lower grain prices and drought.
President Trump’s new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China have gone into effect. While the economic consequences are unknown, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has promised to have a plan ready for farmers, if needed.
